July 7, 2020 by Peugeot

Managing Director of PEUGEOT UK, David Peel, has been named an 'Outstanding UK Leader' at the Autocar Awards 2020. Since taking the role in 2016, Peel has seen PEUGEOT go from strength to strength in the UK, with sales figures, customer satisfaction and residual values all improving year-on-year. In 2019 PEUGEOT announced a new electrification strategy, with Peel leading the drive to launch an electrified variant of each model within the range by 2023.

Autocar has named David Peel, Managing Director of PEUGEOT UK, as a winner of the 'Outstanding UK Leader' award at the Autocar Awards 2020. The Autocar Awards celebrate achievements in the automotive industry over the past 12 months and recognise the key business leaders responsible for driving the UK's industry forward.

After taking the role of Managing Director of PEUGEOT UK in 2016, Peel has been instrumental to the success of one of the UK's best-selling manufacturers. PEUGEOT has seen a rise in popularity over the past four years, with sales growth outperforming the UK car market in 2019 with a 3.5% market share and over 80,000 new car sales.

Mark Tisshaw, Editor of Autocar said: 'Under his straight-talking guidance not just sales have risen, but profits too, all underpinned by a relentless focus on enhancing residual values. Retailers have a spring in their steps again – suddenly PEUGEOT is moving up just about every satisfaction survey there is, be it inward-looking or customer orientated.'

Since 2017, Peel has been at the forefront of enhancing the brand's customer offering by introducing PEUGEOT Buy Online, which allows customers to configure a car, receive a part exchange valuation, personalize their finance and place an order, all from the comfort of their own home. PEUGEOT were one of the first manufacturers to provide a digital buying solution to its customers.

Over the past year, Peel has been at the forefront of driving PEUGEOT's electrification strategy of 'The Power Of Choice', with a mission to launch an electrified derivative of every car and van in the range by 2023.

Reflecting on his win, David Peel said; 'I am extremely honoured to be a recipient of Autocar's 'Outstanding UK Leader' award. Everyone at PEUGEOT works extremely hard to deliver the great results we have seen over the past four years. I am truly thankful for the great team who work around me, and the committed force of the PEUGEOT Retailer Network working in alignment of our Stronger Together ethos. I'm especially proud of the disciplined and consistent measures we have taken to improve the residual values of our vehicles. By resisting the urge to force tactical volumes, we are able to make really competitive offers – with our customers becoming the true winners!'

Due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, Autocar took the decision to move the Autocar Awards 2020 to an online event, with all winners revealed on the Autocar website on Tuesday 7 July.
