WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca roared back in 2021; poised for bigger 2022

As the Monterey Peninsula emerged from the economic hardships created by the pandemic, the Laguna Seca Recreation Area served as a thriving hub of economic activity and rejuvenation for the region.

After hosting events with no spectators in 2020, WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca continued providing safe and sanitary facilities in 2021 as the fans gradually returned. Seven major events with spectators were held in 2021, following all safety and COVID-19 protocols (the Trans Am Speedfest in April was held without spectators), and added family-friendly activities to heighten the experience of visiting.

The GEICO Motorcycle MotoAmerica Superbike Speedfest at Monterey and AHRMA Classic MotoFest of Monterey provided plenty of motorcycle racing excitement in July. The Monterey Pre-Reunion and Rolex Monterey Motorsports Reunion brought the pageantry and heritage of one of the world's most prominent historic car racing events back to the Peninsula in August. The Hyundai Monterey Sports Car Championship and Firestone Grand Prix of Monterey provided a spectacular two weeks of competition in September, and the Velocity Invitational closed the 2021 event season with an impressive motorsport and lifestyle experience.

Even while recovering from a pandemic, the combined attendance of these events exceeded 180,000 visitors to the Laguna Seca Recreation Area and County of Monterey.

'Just like the rest of the event and entertainment industry, WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca faced many challenges as the calendar flipped to 2021, but our team rolled up their sleeves and got to work,' said John Narigi, president and general manager of WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca. 'We took great pride in hosting these events in a safe and sanitary environment, and we can't wait to welcome back many more fans in 2022.'

When premier events weren't taking place on the renowned WeatherTech Raceway circuit, the track still saw plenty of action with year-round track rentals. There were 73 different companies who rented the asphalt at WeatherTech Raceway in 2021. With those included, the track saw action in 83 percent of the days throughout the year.

Fans didn't just flock back to the grandstands and paddock. The refreshed campgrounds at Laguna Seca Recreation Area have never been busier. The beautiful backdrop and stunning scenery attracted campers by the thousands in 2021. In fact, camping was up 36 percent in 2021 from 2019, and up 60 percent from 2020. Whether it's a place to stay during a favorite racing event, or a visit to the Monterey Peninsula, camping at Laguna Seca is always a perfect way to get some fresh air and sunshine. And with advance planning, Family RV will deliver and set up any size recreational vehicle for added comfort and ease.

As big as the 2021 comeback season was for WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca, 2022 promises to be even bigger. With eight premier events on the schedule, the action will be non-stop at the Corkscrew, Rainey Curve, Rahal Straight and Andretti Hairpin.

VIP ticket packages, Season and Family Passes or individual event tickets are now available at WeatherTechRaceway.com. Premier and Reserved event camping is available to book and can be reserved by calling the Tickets & Accommodations Office, Monday – Friday, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., at (831) 242-8200.
