PEUGEOT increases 2021 UK market share and LEV sales mix

January 6, 2022 by Peugeot

PEUGEOT has increased its UK new car and van market share from 4.4% in 2020 to 4.5% in 2021, according to the latest registration figures released by the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT). The brand increased its new car only market share from 3.5% in 2020 to 3.7% in 2021, whilst also recording a strong uplift in low emission vehicle (LEV) passenger car sales mix, increasing from 11.2% at the end of 2020 to 19.4% at the end of 2021. The market share increase comes despite continuing disruption in the market.

The brand's strong portfolio of LEV vehicles – including the fully electric e-208 and e-2008, as well as the 3008 HYBRID, 508 and 508 SW HYBRID – helped to push the brand's LEV passenger car sales mix to 19.4%. With the aim of continuing this trajectory, PEUGEOT will launch the new 308 and new 308 SW HYBRID later this year, with a fully electric 308 to follow in 2023.

PEUGEOT's Buy Online platform proved valuable again in 2021, having initially launched in 2017. The platform allows buyers to configure, finance and order their new car, all from the comfort of their home. The Virtual Showroom allows buyers to organise live, online one-on-one tours with a product expert around a vehicle they are interested in, making the purchase journey as convenient as possible.

Simon Bisp, Sales Director, PEUGEOT UK, said: 'Whilst we continued to face challenges over the course of 2021, it's extremely encouraging to see the positive increase in our passenger car market share and LEV sales mix. I am extremely proud of the commitment our Retailer network has shown in helping customers transition to electric, and I know that momentum will continue into 2022.

This strong performance can be attributed to our stellar vehicle line-up – as of today, almost all of our passenger vehicles offer an electrified variant, whilst our Light Commercial Vehicle (LCV) range is one of the few on the market that can offer customers a fully-electric variant for every model.

As we head into 2022, I know everyone at PEUGEOT is excited to bring to market the highly anticipated new 308 and new 308 SW, the next models to be launched as part of our electrification strategy. The response to early drives of these models has been overwhelmingly positive, and we look forward to their arrival in UK showrooms.'
