Extensively Upgraded First-Generation 4X4 Generates 80 Bids And An Inter-Continental Bidding War
A total of 80 bids were submitted and 22,205 views were registered for the custom truck, which was consigned by the Collecting Cars U.S. team. Closing for bids on Thursday, January 20, the Bronco generated an inter-continental bidding war with competition between Europe and the US.
This marks the third successful auction of Jenson Button-related vehicles by Collecting Cars within the past year. On July 4, a 2004 Porsche Carrera GT originally owned and driven by Button sold for $975,000 (€820,500). That was followed on September 2 by the $439,099 (£317,464) auction of Button's 1994 Porsche 911 (964) Turbo 3.6 X88.
Based on the first generation of Ford's rugged 4x4, the Bronco is powered by a naturally aspirated and fuel injected 302ci (4.9L) small-block Bronco V8, driving all four wheels via a three-speed automatic transmission. Upgrades include Fitech fuel injection, an Edelbrock filter, and MSD ignition kit with push-button start. Additional installments include an Optima battery and battery cut-off switch.
Finished in a smart Dark Blue hue, this Bronco features gloss black wheel arch extensions, as well as side protection runners. It has been further customized with the 'side window delete' treatment, with red accents around the front grille, towing hooks, and the 'Ford' badge.
Interior appointments include new cream leather with the period-correct seats. Over the rear bench is a half roll cage finished in black, as well as a lightweight roof frame and a new Bimini soft top. A Borgeson power steering rack and a new polished steering column have been installed, along with a wood-rimmed steering wheel. Other interior upgrades include a Kenwood stereo and USB cable.
