Boy Scouts to Compete in Pinewood Derby and Earn Automotive Maintenance Merit Badge

As Barrett-Jackson, prepares to celebrate 50 years during its 2022 Scottsdale Auction, January 22-30, The World's Greatest Collector Car Auctions is hosting a variety of youth-focused initiatives during the first two days of the event, including QT Family Day on Saturday, January 22, when all children ages 12 and younger will receive free admission. As part of these initiatives, Barrett-Jackson will host the Pennzoil STEM Fest Powered by Sci-Tech Institute as well as more than 100 Boy Scouts from the Grand Canyon Council as they complete their Automotive Maintenance Merit Badge and compete in Barrett-Jackson's Boy Scouts Pinewood Derby.

'At Barrett-Jackson, it is our mission to bring people together to celebrate our love for cars and to grow the hobby for generations to come,' said Craig Jackson, chairman and CEO of Barrett-Jackson. 'It is incredibly important to engage with the youth in our communities, both from an educational standpoint and by providing opportunities for multiple generations to come together, share a common passion and enjoy time with one another through this hobby we all love.'

The Pennzoil STEM Fest powered by Arizona Sci-Tech Institute will feature approximately 25 different groups ranging from Universal Technical Institute, Lucid Motors, SUNI & Friends and local schools and their Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) Clubs to create a diverse and interactive selection of STEM activities for young auction-goers in attendance. Activities will range from STEM learning games, robotics, computer science skills, solar-powered activities, and highlighting careers in the world of STEM.

The Boys Scouts of America's Grand Canyon Council will also be onsite Saturday, January 22, to participate in an opening flag ceremony and to earn their Automotive Maintenance Merit Badge. The merit badge event will include seven stations with vehicles and qualified instructors and mechanics to educate Scouts on a variety of common automotive tasks such as understanding dashboard icons, seatbelt safety and checking engine oil. Additionally, Universal Technical Institute will also have representatives speak with Scouts about the broad scope of careers within the automotive industry.

In addition to the merit badge event, Boy Scouts will compete in a Pinewood Derby in Barrett-Jackson's pre-staging lanes. Prior to the Scouts' races, Barrett-Jackson will kick off the Derby races when they host a Corporate Pinewood Derby.

All Scouts from the Boy Scouts of America Grand Canyon attending the event on Saturday and Sunday, January 22-23 in uniform will receive free admission with the first 500 receiving a unique Barrett-Jackson patch.
