Since its introduction in 2021, Hyundai's rally-inspired i20N has always punched well above its 1,190kg weight. However, to win the coveted UK Car of the Year Best Performance Car title, the i20N had to compete against a line-up of established sports cars with performance far beyond its usual hot hatch competitors. 'The Hyundai i20N is quite the performer at an affordable price,' observed the judges, acknowledging the car's £25,220 price tag and the breath-taking 6.2-second 0-62mph acceleration time afforded by the efficient 204PS 1.6 T-GDi petrol engine. One of the judges, Top Gear Head of Car Testing, Ollie Marriage, described the Hyundai i20N as 'A wicked little hot hatch.' Marriage has considerable experience of the Hyundai i20N and led Top Gear's judging panel when it named the Hyundai i20N 'Top Gear Speed Week Champion' and 'Top Gear Car of the Year' in 2021. Ashley Andrew, Managing Director, Hyundai Motor UK, said: 'Given the exceptional experience of the judges, who hail from all four corners of the nation, winning a UK Car of the Year category award is a true endorsement for any brand. We are, therefore, delighted to win not one but two category awards this year. That the Hyundai IONIQ 5 has, once again, shone is testament to its stand-out design, state-of-the-art electric platform, its technology features and its spacious practicality. It really does deliver the future of electric mobility today. 'Hyundai's engineers and designers never shy away from a challenge, and that spirit of technical progress is also beautifully illustrated in the Hyundai i20N. Built to put a smile on the face of even the most demanding driver, its five-door format ensures it delivers everyday practicality too.' Priced from £37,420, the sleekly styled Hyundai IONIQ 5 pays homage to the marque's design heritage whilst focusing on delivering the future of electric mobility. Thanks to Hyundai's industry-disrupting new Electric Global Modular Platform (E-GMP), the IONIQ 5 provides faster charging times, increased driving range, enhanced handling, and superior interior space. The modular, flat-floor E-GMP has also enabled Hyundai's designers to revolutionise the car interior. The IONIQ 5 redefines what is possible with a completely new in-car experience and living space, offering sustainable materials, fully flexible seating, and numerous custom options. Priced from £25,220, the comprehensively equipped Hyundai i20 N builds on the strengths of Hyundai's renowned, performance-focused N brand and the success of the acclaimed i20. A true sporting icon, the i20N also takes inspiration and engineering values from the multiple-rally-winning i20 Coupe WRC car. It's equally at home delivering its unique brand of exhilarating performance both on the road and racetrack.
