IMSA set to bring plenty of exciting racing action to the Monterey Peninsula
by WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca | April 26, 2022
Fresh off the heels of a thrilling weekend in Long Beach, IMSA brings its Hyundai Monterey Sports Car Championship, presented by Motul to WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca.
Heading into the April 29 - May 1 event in Monterey, the competition is already heating up as drivers jockey for position in the WeatherTech Sportscar Championship standings.
Earl Bamber and Alex Lynn, drivers of the No. 2 for Cadillac Racing, sit atop the standings after a second-place finish at the Acura Grand Prix of Long Beach April 9. The duo also had a strong showing at Sebring, taking the checkered flag alongside teammate Neel Jani.
Bamber and Lynn currently hold the top spot with 1,005 points each, but Tristan Vautier and Richard Westbrook are just three points back. Vautier and Westbrook, drivers of the No. 5 JDC Motorsports Cadillac DPi, placed third in Long Beach and second at Sebring, and have been driving at a high level.
Sebastien Bourdais and Renger van der Zande were atop the podium in Long Beach and will look to make it two wins in a row when they navigate WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca.
After two races, there's a tie atop the standings. Owen Trinkler and Ted Giovanis, driving the No. 64 TeamTGM Porsche 718 GT4 RS CS, and Trent Hindman and Alan Brynjolfsson, driving the No. 7 Aston Martin Vantage GT4, all have 560 points.
Monterey resident Nick Galante will be driving the No. 22 Porsche 718 GT4 RS CS for Team Hardpoint with teammate Sean McAlister. The duo is driving a special car, which includes the names of those diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease. Read more about Nick and the car here.
In addition to watching all the world-class racing action, there are a variety of food and beverage options in the open paddock at WeatherTech Raceway, as well as a kid's zone.
The revamped kid's zone features a carnival atmosphere and new rides, including the Mind Winder and Tubs of Fun. A bounce house will also be onsite, joining the Ferris Wheel and Go-Kart track.
Don't miss out on a weekend full of racing, sunshine and family friendly activities.
