EMTEC develop and supply talent to the UK and global automotive industry, presiding over a wide ranging training programme covering automotive apprenticeships, specialist bespoke training packages, online training and accredited automotive qualifications. Owned and managed by Nottingham College, one of the largest colleges in the UK, EMTEC offers safe, regulated and accredited training to young people and adults within the automotive and engineering industries.
The programme, which is IMI accredited, initially launched in April 2019, is run by a fully qualified, dedicated EMTEC team who ensure that every candidate receives comprehensive training on the latest vehicles, specialist tools, industry technologies, diagnostic equipment, IT systems and customer handling techniques.
Stephen Archery, Strategic Business Partner at EMTEC, said; 'EMTEC is absolutely delighted to manage and deliver the SsangYong UK Technician Apprenticeship Programme. SsangYong is known as a growing automotive manufacturer with a reputation for quality, style, and value. These qualities have been used to design bespoke apprenticeships that develop the skills and knowledge needed for the work force of the future. The innovative and exciting apprenticeship programme will deliver modern, cutting-edge education and an improvement in developing knowledge and skills to support SsangYong moving forwards.'
The programme is three years in duration and includes eight, one-week long modules per year, delivered at the SsangYong Academy in Nottingham. As well as containing information on training and assessment, all apprenticeship standards must contain an end-point assessment where an independent organisation is involved – this ensures all apprentices following the same standard are assessed consistently.

Mark Burrows, aftersales director at SsangYong Motors UK, said; 'I am delighted to announce the continuation of our Technician Apprenticeship Programme, and commencing the journey in developing technicians of the future. The programme is designed to deliver blended learning pathways providing apprentices with future technical skills experience, expertise and hands-on tuition from directly within the automotive industry, while also enabling them to earn as they learn. It's been specifically designed to maximise on-the-job training whilst minimising time away from the dealership. Apprenticeships form an important part of our industry, training a new generation of skilled workers. As we move ever closer to our electrification goals, the skills that our apprentices learn will become ever more important. This is why SsangYong continues to invest in apprenticeships.'
