Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan, said: 'Zero-emission freight is an area which has been considered a significant barrier in the shift to decarbonising road transport. That is why I'm delighted to support Volta Trucks, who have recently launched the London trial of their first fully electric heavy goods vehicle (HGV). The new Volta Zero vehicle is the future of London's freight – world-leading in terms of green technology, while also meeting the highest safety standard which can be awarded to an HGV.' He continued: 'As more electric vehicles come onto our roads, it's vital that London has the infrastructure to support them. TfL will be releasing another two batches of sites to the market to deliver public rapid and ultra-rapid charge points across its road network. These sites will play a huge part in supporting high mileage, essential road users such as commercial vehicles and businesses and will help us work towards building a greener and more prosperous London for everyone. But while London is leading the way, we need to see more action nationally to pick up the pace delivering electric vehicle infrastructure. When it comes to making the transition to cleaner vehicles and delivering the benefits of cleaner air, this must be considered an urgent national mission.' Tottenham MP, Rt. Hon. David Lammy, continued: 'It is great for Tottenham to have Volta Trucks leading the way with this state-of-the-art facility creating new green jobs, developing future talent, and bringing investment. It is vital to have these next generation of trucks on our roads to improve road safety and air quality with the workforce in place to support them.' Essa Al-Saleh, Chief Executive Officer of Volta Trucks, added: 'We are incredibly grateful to Mayor Sadiq Khan and Tottenham MP David Lammy for opening our brand-new facility. London has always been one of our key entry markets throughout Europe. The importance of improving air quality and increasing road user safety here is paramount and why Volta Trucks has made this significant investment. On our mission towards decarbonising urban logistics, we need political support through financial incentives, regulatory certainty and measures to accelerate the installation of charging infrastructure.' Casper Norden, Chief Fleet Solutions Officer of Volta Trucks, added: 'The opening of our Truck as a Service Hub in Tottenham is an exciting milestone for Volta Trucks towards our vision of zero-tailpipe emission cities. By establishing a strong presence in London and other major European cities, we aim to revolutionise the way that goods are delivered and transported in cities, accelerating the adoption of electric commercial vehicles, and paving the way for a cleaner and greener future.' The Volta Trucks London Hub recently underwent a BREEAM assessment which is used to measure the sustainability performance of buildings across a range of design and operational areas. The Hub was deemed 'Excellent' in its overall asset performance score. The site is fitted with a photovoltaic system on the roof converting sunlight into energy for the site and a passive solar wall optimising the heating and ventilation of the building. This achievement reinforces Volta Trucks' commitment to sustainability and its environmental footprint. Complementing the London Hub is a network of third-party Certified Service Partners. Sapphire Vehicle Solutions, the company's first UK partner, has a comprehensive service and maintenance network across the UK, designed around Volta Trucks customers' requirements. They also use a fleet of mobile servicing units linked to each location, to maximise the uptime of customers' vehicles.
