RM SOTHEBY'S INCREDIBLE CARRERA COLLECTION AUCTIONS GROSS €15 MILLION

• The collection was offered in two parts and entirely without reserve

• The larger of the two sales, Part 1: Switzerland, grossed an excellent CHF10,450,075, with the 1973 Porsche 911 Carrera RS 2.7 Touring topping the sale at CHF483,125

• The second sale, Part 2: Italy, grossed €4,187,850 with the top-selling cars being a 2010 Porsche 911 GT2 RS and a 1997 Porsche 911 Turbo S, which both sold for €421,250

RM Sotheby's has successfully concluded the sale of the remarkable Carrera Collection, offering 80 cars across two sales in Switzerland and Italy. The Swiss sale grossed an excellent CHF10,450,075, while Part 2, which was hosted in the Palazzo Serbelloni in central Milan, grossed €4,187,850. Both sales were conducted in front of busy auction rooms with significant additional participation over the telephones and online bidding. The sale, largely consisting of Porsches, further consolidates RM Sotheby's reputation as the leading auction house for single-owner collections.

Part 1: Switzerland

The incredible Carrera Collection set off with the Swiss portion of the sale, with many cars comfortably selling above high estimate.

The highlight of Part 1 was the stunning 1973 Porsche 911 Carrera RS 2.7 Touring, which sold for CHF483,125. An excellent example of Porsche's famed homologation special, the car retained its matching-numbers chassis, engine, and gearbox, and presented in its factory-correct colour combination of Light Yellow over black.

Another car that sold extremely well was the 2008 Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren Roadster. Boasting less than 11,000 kilometres on the clock and presented in the timeless colours of Crystal Laurite Silver Metallic over Exclusive Anthracite Silver Arrow leather, this stunning and rare car deserved its CHF466,250 selling price.

Further highlights include the sale of a 1963 Porsche 356 B Carrera 2 'Sunroof' Coupé by Reutter, which sold for CHF404,375, in addition to a 1955 Porsche 356 1500 Speedster by Reutter, which sold for a very strong CHF365,000. Demand for limited-run, modern-era Porsches remains strong, with a highly desirable 2016 Porsche 911 R selling for CHF325,625.

Part 2: Italy

The stunning location of the Palazzo Serbelloni, home to Sotheby's Milan, provided the perfect backdrop for the second of the two Carrera Collection auctions. This time around, RM Sotheby's grossed €4,187,850, with the auction featuring a modest 27 lots.

The top-selling car was the very special 1997 Porsche 911 Turbo S, which was a pre-production example and was used by Porsche to homologate the 993-generation Turbo S. This unique and meticulously cared-for machine sold for a resounding €421,250. Selling for an equal sum of €421,250, the 2010 Porsche 911 GT2 RS, a low-mileage, highly specified example of the ultimate evolution of the 997 generation, matched the Turbo S for top honours.

The 1959 Porsche 356 A Carrera 1600 GT Coupé by Reutter boasted period competition history with class wins at the 1959 Pontedecimo-Giovi and Aosta-Pila hill climbs and was arguably the ultimate iteration of the 356 A model, with its quad-camshaft engine and lightweight components. Highly eligible for vintage motorsport events and concours, this example achieved a deserved €353,750.

Moreover, Porsche Speedsters continued to show their strong figures in the market, with a 2011 and 1989 model both making incredible values as the gavel fell. The 2011 Porsche 911 Speedster, offered in striking Speedster-only Pure Blue, achieved €275,000. The 1989 Porsche 911 Speedster example with just 1,986 miles on the odometer also achieved a strong €195,500.
