•Digital Key allows customers to lock, unlock and operate a Hyundai vehicle using a smartphone or a smartwatch instead of a traditional key
•The system also allows the primary user to share Digital Key access with three other users, enabling vehicle operating access to family or friends at any time
Hyundai Auto Canada is pleased to announce the integration of the new Digital Key for some of its 2023 and 2024 models, starting with the all-new 2024 KONA, refreshed 2024 ELANTRA and IONIQ 6. The Digital Key1 allows the vehicle to lock, unlock and start a Hyundai vehicle using an iPhone, select Samsung or Google devices or a compatible smartwatch. This technology also allows the main user to share access to a Digital Key with up to three users, wherever they may be.
Making life easier for Hyundai customers with Digital Key
Another great feature of Digital Key is the ability to enable vehicle operating access to family or friends at any time. The key is shared by visiting Apple Wallet or Samsung Pass app then sharing a key to a contact using a messaging app. Up to three keys can be shared simultaneously, and all users can set up their own presets for driver-seat and mirror position, climate, audio preferences and more. The primary user can control when a shared key can be used and can end a shared key's capability at any time.
A technology to be deployed quickly
'Digital Key once again demonstrates Hyundai's leading role as an automaker in the field of technology' says Aryan Habib, manager of connected vehicles and telematics at Hyundai Auto Canada. 'After completely revamping the Canadian Bluelink app in 2022, the launch of Digital Key is another example of the leadership Hyundai plays in the world of connected vehicles, and ultimately making life easier for our customers.'
Launched with the all-new 2024 KONA, the Digital Key will also be available with the 2023 and 2024 IONIQ 6. As for the 2023 IONIQ 6 units already on the road, a remote update will allow owners to enjoy this technology. 2024 ELANTRA and 2024 SONATA will also offer Digital Key, with other models to follow soon.
1 In order to take full advantage of the app, please ensure you are running iOS 14 or newer or Android 12 or newer on your compatible smartphone. Minimum operating system requirements are subject to change at any time.

•Digital Key will first be available for IONIQ 6, 2024 ELANTRA and 2024 KONA, gradually making its way in other Hyundai models in 2024
Using Near-Field Communication (NFC) technology, the Digital Key allows customers to safely operate a Hyundai vehicle without requiring a traditional key. After installing the Digital Key, using a smartphone, users can unlock their vehicle by holding their device against the driver door handle. Once inside, the phone simply needs to be placed in the wireless charging tray, the start button pushed, and the vehicle is ready to go. No need to carry a key around all the time anymore, although two traditional proximity keys remain standard on all Hyundai vehicles. Owners of Hyundai models compatible with Digital Key can also purchase an NFC Card Key that can fit inside a billfold, and substitute for a phone for valet services, leaving the vehicle to be serviced, or use in case the phone runs out of power.
