Milton Keynes. The Mercedes-AMG A 45 S 4MATIC+ has been named Hot Hatch of The Year at the annual What Car? Awards.

Steve Huntingford, Editor, What Car? commented: 'Fun has to come first with a hot hatch, and the Mercedes-AMG A 45 delivers more of it than any rival. Its engine is extremely responsive, with the rev counter needle whipping around the dial when you press the accelerator pedal. And, crucially, the car's four-wheel drive system allows you to deploy every bit of the power. There's also very little body lean in corners, while the steering weights up naturally and lets you place the front wheels with millimetric precision. And yet, despite all this, the A 45 is just as practical as any other A-Class.'

Assembled in Affalterbach according to the 'one man, one engine' principle, the innovative 2.0-litre four-cylinder engine in the Mercedes-AMG A 45 S 4MATIC+ produces 421 hp and 500 Nm. Acceleration from 0 to 62mph takes just 3.9 seconds. Active, fully-variable AMG Performance 4MATIC+ all-wheel drive with AMG TORQUE CONTROL allows power to be distributed between the front and rear axles, and independently between the rear wheels for optimum traction and agile, predictable responses. The Mercedes-AMG A 45 S 4MATIC+ is available to order from £63,285 OTR1.

The Mercedes-Benz E 300 e, E 300 e Estate and GLC 300 e plug-in hybrids were also recognised by What Car? as 'Best Buys' in their respective categories.

What Car? praised the E 300 e's 71-mile electric range, running costs and refinement, naming it Best Hybrid in the Executive Car category. Meanwhile, the E 300 e Estate was awarded Best for Comfort in the Estate category, owing to its 'settled and comfortable ride quality' and the 'ambience of its classy interior'. With up to 83 miles of all-electric range, the GLC 300 e was named Best for All-Electric Range in the Plug-In Hybrid category. 'Company car drivers won't only save money with the GLC 300 e,' said What Car? Editor Steve Huntingford, 'they'll be getting an SUV that's spacious, practical and luxurious'.

The Mercedes-Benz E 300 e and E 300 e Estate are available to order from £68,020 OTR1 and £70,270 OTR1 respectively. The Mercedes-Benz GLC 300 e is available from £58,710 OTR1. The GLC is available with 5.9% APR2 representative and a further £2,000 off3 until 31 March 2024.
