FISITA FLAG PASSED ON TO KOREA AT FISITA 2014 WORLD AUTOMOTIVE CONGRESS
Company press release.The 35th FISITA World Automotive Congress came to a close earlier this month as host society the Royal Dutch Society of Engineers (KIVI) officially passed the FISITA flag to the Korean Society of Automotive Engineers (KSAE). From 2-6 June 2014, industry experts, engineers and executives gathered in Maastricht, the Netherlands, for a comprehensive programme that addressed 'Intelligent transport to solve our future mobility, safety and environmental challenges'. The Congress, organised by KIVI and FISITA (the International Federation of Automotive Engineering Societies), offered over 1100 delegates of 44 nationalities the opportunity to attend a variety of technical sessions across ten themes. In total, 482 technical papers were presented, including high profile keynote addresses as part of an Executive Track. A busy exhibition ran throughout the congress, along with a parallel Student Congress, and a diverse and exciting Social Programme and array of technical visits. During the Closing Ceremony, Prof. Jac Wismans, Chairman of the FISITA 2014 Scientific and Technical Committee, summarised the major technical trends presented at the congress. He said, 'The most important trend at FISITA 2014 that will determine our research agenda for the next 20 or 30 years is automated driving. It will change our future transport mobility even more than vehicle electrification already is doing, involving all major automotive engineering disciplines including human factors and with a large impact on safety and sustainability and also with great legal and societal implications.' The official Closing Ceremony recognised ten authors in the Outstanding Paper Awards, one author for each of the ten congress themes, presented on behalf of the Scientific and Technical Committee by Dr. Li Jun, President of China FAW Corporation Limited, Research and Development Centre, and FISITA President 2012-2014. The Manuel Junoy Award for the best paper presented by an author under the age of 35, funded by a donation from Prof. Osamu Hirao of Japanese Society of Automotive Engineers (JSAE), was presented to Mr. Michael Bernath of MAN Truck & Bus. The Student Awards recognised the 3 best papers presented at the Student Congress that ran parallel to the main congress. The FISITA flag was passed on by Mr. Jack Martens, Vice Chairman of FISITA 2014, to Prof. Kwang Min Chun, whom accepted the flag on behalf of KSAE, hosts of the FISITA 2016 World Automotive Congress to be hosted in Busan, Korea from 26-30 September 2016.

Following the handover of the FISITA flag, Dr. Li Jun, representing SAE China as FISITA President, passed on the FISITA Presidency Baton to Mr. Paul Mascarenas, Chief Technical Officer and Vice President, Ford Motor Company. Mr. Mascarenas represents the Institution of Mechanical Engineers (IMechE), United Kingdom, as FISITA President 2014-2016. Earlier in the congress, the FISITA Medal was presented to Prof. Helmut List, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of AVL List GmbH. The FISITA Medial is the highest honour bestowed by FISITA and is awarded in recognition of distinguished achievement and leadership in the automotive industry. The FISITA 2016 World Automotive Congress in Busan, Korea, will welcome an international audience of specialists in the automotive industry to share knowledge to bring future generations a new era of transportation. The congress theme will be 'Creative Thinking for Future Automobiles' and will deal with issues such as energy efficiency, safety, eco-friendly technology and connectivity.
