The Ferrari Mondial convertible was produced by Ferrari from 1980 to 1993. The mid-sized coupe and eventually a cabriolet, wore styling by Ferrari. It offered four seats with the performance of a Ferrari. The car's body was not built as a monocoque in the same way as a conventional car; instead, the steel outer body was produced by the Italian coachbuilder Carrozzeria Scaglietti over a lightweight steel box-section space frame. The Mondial was the first Ferrari where the entire engine, gearbox, and rear suspension assembly was mounted on a detachable steel sub-frame, making engine removal much easier than on prior models.
CabrioletIn 1985, the bore and stroke of the engine grew to 3.2-liters, and output was rated at 280 bhp. Available in both Coupe and Cabriolet forms, the styling was refreshed with restyled and body-colored bumpers, similar to the ones found on the 328. The indicators and driving lamps became more integrated, and new wheels with a more rounded face were installed. The interior received a more ergonomic layout and a more rounded instrument binnacle. Beginning in 1987, an anti-lock braking system became standard. Fuel injection remained, primarily a mechanical Bosch K-Jetronic (CIS) system, with an O2 sensor in the exhaust providing feedback to a computer for mixture trimming. The ignition system came from Marelli Microplex.1988 would be the final model year for the Mondial 3.2.
