1917 Oldsmobile Model 45 Light Eight Navigation
Beginning with the early and memorable curved Dash Runabout of 1903, the Oldsmobile Company would soldier through the late-19th century and into the 21st century before its ultimate demise. The Oldsmobile production line until August of 1915 was comprised of four- and six-cylinder models. After this, production commenced on a new 120-inch wheelbase, V8-powered Model 44 Light Eight, which quickly outsold its four-cylinder companion models.
This 1917 Model 45 Light Eight Touring car is believed to have been owned by only two long-term owners during its first 81 years. The first owner retained the car for 32 years. The second family had the car for the next 49 years. The car was used sparingly and carefully stored and maintained in its original and unmodified condition. In mid-2004, the current owner acquired the vehicle. The car was given a restoration and many original components were retained, including the original gauges. The L-head V8 engine displaces 246 cubic inches and offers nearly 60 horsepower. There is a three-speed transmission with reverse, and two-wheel pedal-operated service brakes.
In 2011, the car was offered for sale at the Hershey Auction presented by RM Auctions. It was estimated to sell for $20,000 - $30,000. As bidding came to a close, the car had been sold for the sum of $14,850 inclusive of buyer's premium.By Daniel Vaughan | Dec 2011
