The second-generation Chevrolet Camaro is a pony car produced for the 1970 through 1981 model years. It was introduced on February 26, 1970, at the height of the so-called Pony car wars. The car was longer, lower, and wider than the first-generation Camaro. GM engineers described the second generation as much more of 'A Driver's Car' than its predecessor.
This car is the special hand-built prototype to test the assembly processes at the Norwood Ohio assembly plant. It was originally built as a six-cylinder standard transmission car. It was sent to Chevrolet engineering in Warren Michigan to be a test mule for homologating FIA race car parts and engine & transmission components.
It was also used to test SCCA Trans-Am series parts such as the 350 cubic-inch cross-ram engine. It was also used to test the 454 cubic-inch 450 horsepower LS-6 engine and was subsequently given to Smokey Yunick who ran more tests to 'Homologate' the 1970/71 racing parts for the FIA.
It was provided to Smokey with a 'Big Block' with all the racing goodies' but was intended to be tested for street usage. All homologation documents list the LS-6 as the big block and Smokey said that the 'Big Block' was an LS-6 454 450 HP motor. many other chassis and brake parts were upgraded as well while being tested by Yunick.
This car has never been titled.
