By the time this car was built, Packard was 15 years on the market and firmly entrenched as a manufacturer of luxury automobiles. The unusually arched center door was common to all Packard Model 3-48 formal cars enabling easier entry and exit for passengers. Little is known about the history of this car, though it is likely that the upholstery in the passenger compartment is original.
This rather remarkable car was gifted to the AACA Museum from an estate in Jupiter, Florida minus its unique cathedral-shaped Packard radiator. Around 2013, contact was initiated with the Gerz family in Lancaster, Pennsylvania (Packard enthusiasts and a fourth-generation radiator and repair shop) about the possibility of fabricating the missing radiator. Blueprints from the Studebaker museum and a 1915 Packard were used in the replication. The Gerz's generously donated the time, materials, and expertise in reconstructing the radiator to its original specifications. In addition, they made the car operational.
