The prancing stallion is known worldwide, from chic salons to steamy paddocks. Today Ferrari signifies luxury, power, and wealth. It wasn't always that way: Enzo Ferrari began producing road cars as a reluctant concession necessary to fund the beloved, but expensive, racing program he had founded in 1929.
The 365 GT 2+2 was a replacement for the 330 GT 2+2. Designed by Pininfarina, it debuted at the 1967 Paris Auto Salon. When other manufacturers were creating vehicles with mid-engine designs, Ferrari continued to use their tried-and-true front-engine/rear-wheel drive formula. This was Ferrari's largest vehicle to date, well over 16 feet long and weighing in at almost two tons. It can seat four quite comfortably; unsurprisingly, it was nicknamed the 'Queen Mary' by enthusiasts.
In spite of its size, it was very popular, with 800 eventually built. It included amenities such as power windows, brakes and steering, air conditioning, pleated leather upholstery, and a radio; opulent by Ferrari standards. It also included all-independent suspension, four-wheel discs, five speeds and self-levelling rear suspension. Power came from a 4.4L SOHC V12 with three Weber carburetors; the engine made 320 horsepower and could push the car to 150 mph. Production ended in 1971.
The current owner has owned it for 14 years.
