For 1937, Lincoln added the Zephyr to its lineup and produced alongside the Model K. The Model K continued to be offered as a prestigious model wearing a simplistic design. In the front, the headlamps were now of an art deco teardrop design that was streamlined into the front fenders. All standard bodies came with a V-front windscreen. Along the side, the belt moldings were replaced with a narrow crease, and the doors extended down almost to the running boards. Under the bonnet, the V-12 engine was given hydraulic lifters and a different cam contour. The engine was also moved forward and rested on altered engine mounts.
This particular example has a two-window sedan body style. It is one of only forty-eight factory aluminum-bodied two-window sedans built to style number 354A on the 1937 Model K chassis. In modern times, it is one of just two surviving examples.
This car was originally delivered on January 22nd of 1937, in Richmond, Virginia and was finished in special-order Brewster Green DK (Dark). It is believed the car may have originally been delivered to the State Department. By the late 1940s, the car was in California. In the 1960s, it was purchase by Owen Owens for his Ragtime Museum in Emeryville. It remained in the collection until shortly before Mr. Owen's passing in 1978. Mr. Milliken became the car's next caretaker, who had the paint refreshed, the front seat reupholstered, and a mechanical restoration performed. In the early 1980s, the car became an award winner at several Northern California Concours d'Elegance and was owned by several other West Coast caretakers.
Currently, the car has 88,520 miles which are believed to be original. Its engine, transmission, interior upholstery (except for the front seats), tools, and woodwork are all original. It was given new tubes and tires in January of 2007.
In 2009 at the CCCA Grand Classic in Scottsdale, the car scored 98.25 points and received its Primary First. In 2011, it performed well on the CCCA CARavan to the Grand Canyon and back.By Daniel Vaughan | Jan 2015
