1957 Chrysler New Yorker Town and Country Wagon

    1957 Chrysler New Yorker Navigation
All Chrysler vehicles were redesigned for 1957 to feature Virgil Exner's second-generation Forward Look design. This investment cost the company $300 million. The industry responded, and Chrysler was presented with Motor Trend Magazine's 'Car of the Year' award for their unique styling, performance, and superior handling.

The 1957 New Yorker had large fins, and was low, and sleek. The styling was clean, smooth, modern, and fashionable. In Exner's words, it was 'the new shape of motion.'

The New Yorker was given TorsionAire to improve handling and ride quality. This was a 'first' for Chrysler, but it would not be the only new feature. Other 'firsts' for the company included completely concealed tailpipes, optional Captive-Aire tires, and spool-like engine mounts.

The engine displacement rose nearly 10 percent to 392 CID, making it the largest production car engine available in 1957. The re-tooled 392 Hemi (aka 'The Elephant Motor') would become a dominant force in drag racing during the late fifties.

Body styles included a sedan, 2-and 4-door hardtop, convertible, and a Town & Country wagon. The most popular body style in the New York lineup was the sedan with nearly 12,400 sales. The 4-door hardtop was also popular, with nearly 11,000 examples sold. Just 1,049 examples of the convertible were built, adding to their rarity in modern times.

This two-tone tan and bronze Station Wagon has a matching two-tone tan interior. There is a power front bench seat, power windows, air conditioning, radio, padded dash, and a carpeted cargo area. This 'grocery getter' is powered by the Special ordered 'Chrysler Fire Power' (392 Hemi).
