The Porsche 993 was launched in 1993 and first available in the United States during 1994 for the 1995 model year. The 993-generation 911 series was the ultimate expression of Porsche's original air-cooled, six-cylinder design. Porsche claimed the 993 contained 70-80 percent new or improved content. This was made even more impressive considering the 964 series had already marked a major change from its predecessor. The 993 retained only the roof and front deck lid of the 964.
The 993 featured aggressively bulged fenders, a pinched 'Coke bottle' waist, and neatly integrated bumpers and reclined headlamps. In total, the 993-body structure was around 20-percent stiffer than that of the 964. It had an all-new rear suspension system - named 'LSA' for Light, Stable, and Agile - it was an all-aluminum, multi-link setup. It had enlarged brakes, enhanced ABS, and one-inch wider wheels than the 964. The air-cooled, normally aspirated engine remained at 3.6-liters of displacement, yet given a new hydraulic valvetrain. Output dramatically increased to 272 horsepower in 'standard' tune with the new VarioRam intake system. Mated to the engine was a new six-speed gearbox.
The 993 Turbo made its debut at the March 1995 Geneva Show. It featured a 959-derived all-wheel drivetrain along with twin turbochargers.
As the 993-series production was nearing the end, Rolf Sprenger's elite Porsche Exclusive department secured a batch of the last 993-series bodyshells and took the Turbo concept to a whole new level with the one-year-only Turbo S for the 1997 model year. The U.S. versions had 424 horsepower while the 'RoW' (Rest of World) markets had 450 horsepower. The Turbo S had many updates throughout, most notably including vented rear fenders, yellow brake calipers, a special rear spoiler, four-tipped exhaust, and Aerokit front spoiler with special ventilation and fog-lamp placement.
The 993 Turbo had a 186-mph top end. In total, just 183 examples were produced.
This particular example is a well-maintained vehicle finished in Artic Silver Metallic paint over black full leather upholstery. It has a myriad of factory-installed features and options including a Limited-Slip Locking Rear Differential, Rear Window Roof Spoiler, Sunroof, Power Steering, Becker CDR-210 CD Radio, 6-Disc Becker CDC-3 CD Changer, Pleated Leather Seats, Velour Carpet Luggage Compartment, Full Leather Interior, Full Carbon Fiber Interior Trim, Stainless Steel Door Entry Guards with Logo, Turbo Powerkit, and Aluminum-Look Instrument Dials with Brushed Rings.
