1935 Bugatti Type 57 Stelvio

Named after a pass in the Eastern Alps, the Stelvio was one of Jean Bugatti's body designs for the Type 57 chassis. Many Stelvio bodies were built by Gangloff of Colmar, but this example was built by the Bugatti factory and was originally delivered to a lawyer in Marseille in March 1935. He kept the car at his home right through the occupation in 1940, hiding it behind a steel wall in his garage. Following the liberation, he replaced his Bugatti with a new Mercedes, but the car remained in Marseilles for several more years. In the late 1950s, the car was sold to a U.S. Air Force serviceman who brought it to the United States in 1958. The car was then disassembled and made ready for a rebuild which sadly never took place. After changing hands again, the Bugatti was sold to its present owner in 2015, and it received the restoration it deserved.
