1964 Chevrolet Chevelle Series Navigation
From their release in 1964, Chevrolet's A-Body intermediate models were popular and a sales success. Their modern and attractive styling, value, and extensive list helped them achieve popularity. They could accommodate every available Chevy powerplant from the entry-level inline sixes to the small-block V-8, and up to the Mark IV big-block. With a multitude of body styles, the Chevelle lineup was versatile and could accommodate the needs of virtually everyone.
Malcolm Durham and his series of 'Strip Blazer' Chevelles carried the Cheverolet banner on the drag strip, helping to raise the popularity of the Chevelle despite GM's self-imposed 'official' racing ban. The first-series of Chevelle models of 1964-1967 were a popular choice for muscle car enthusiasts and street and drag racers.
This particular example is a 1964 Chevelle 300 two-door Station Wagon that was ordered new by young parents from Clipper Chevrolet in Covina, California, in late 1963. They sold the car in 1973, and their son was able to locate it in 1984 and has owned it since.
Chevrolet made 2,710 Chevelle two-door station wagons in 1964, with 1,101 of those being fitted with a V-8 engine. This example left the factory with 13 options, including the 283 cubic-inch V-8 engine offering 220 horsepower. It was also given a four-speed transmission, air conditioning, tinted glass, luggage carrier, power steering, tilt steering wheel, padded dash, pushbutton radio, comfort and convenience group, special suspension, whitewall tires, and Malibu wheel covers.
