1979 Volkswagen Beetle Convertible Sedan

The Super Beetle had a 94.5-inch wheelbase, 164.6-inch length, 53.9-inch width, 59.1-inch height and 2,059-pound weight. In the front was a strut independent suspension with coil springs while the rear setup featured swing axles with trailing arms and torsion bars. The brakes were drums at all four corners, and rack-and-pinion handled the steering. Power was from a 1584cc 48 horsepower horizontally-opposed, overhead-valve, air-cooled 4-cylinder with electronic fuel injection. It had a light alloy block and head, as well as finned cylinders with cast-iron liners. Shifting was handled by a 4-speed manual unit, and the final drive unit had spiral bevel gears.

Many thought the 1979 Super Beetle would be the 'last convertible,' so they were ordered in large numbers from the Karmann factory who ended up with back orders that kept the production line going until January of 1980.

This particular example is an unrestored car that has just 858 original miles. It is finished in A1D Lemon Yellow. It is equipped with climate control, the radio-delete option and an optional VDO clock.
