1966 Chevrolet Corvette C2 Convertible

This 1966 Chevrolet Corvette L-72 427/425 Roadster was offered for sale at the 2007 Sports and Classic Car Auction presented by The Worldwide Group, in Hilton Head Island, SC where it was estimated to sell for $105,000 - $125,000. This car is powered by the potent 427 cubic-inch V8 engine capable of producing 425 horsepower. There is a four-speed manual gearbox, heavy-duty suspension, and four-wheel disc brakes. When most marque's gave their supercars technically complex small-displacement engines, the Corvette had simpler and larger displacement engines that used an overhead valve design which gave the engine a lower rev limit resulting in a less expensive engine that is easier to manufacture and maintain.

1963 was a big year for the Corvette as they were totally redesigned, offered in coupe or convertible configuration, and outfitted with a choice of four engines. The new design afforded the passengers additional interior room and a streamlined appearance.

The public approved of the new design and supercar status, with sales increasing greatly. To keep up with demand, a second shift was added to the St. Louis, Missouri assembly plant. At the conclusion of the year, more than 20,000 examples were sold.

The 1966 Stingray Corvette featured only a few changes. It was given a new egg-crate grille and functional engine compartment cooling vents.

This example is a numbers matching example with a big block L72 427 engine and tri-power carburetion. It is finished in the original Sunfire Yellow with black interior and top. This vehicle has two very special options; it has the factory knock-offs and factory side pipes. There is also the original AM/FM Radio.

At auction, the car was sold, selling for just under the estimated value, at $95,000 including buyer's premium.
