1992 Porsche 911 Carrera Navigation
Porsche first used the Rennsport suffix in the mid-1950s on the upgraded 550 spyder. The next use was the 911 Carrera RS 2.7 of 1973, followed by the 911 Carrera 3.0 the following year. Both of these models were built as homologation specials for the RSR race cars. The J-program 911 Carrera Club Sport of 1988 offered some of the accouterments and performance, but it wasn't until 1992 that the next true RS appeared.
The Carrera 4 was the all-wheel-drive version and the Carrera 2 had rear-drive. Porsche adapted the C2 for competition resulting in the 964-based Carrera RS. It was a lighter and more powerful version of the C2 that could be driven on the road or track. They had structural reinforcements and fully welded body-shell seams, and an uprated suspension with coil springs. Power was from a 3,605cc, normally aspirated, fuel-injected flat-six that developed 250 horsepower at 6,100 RPM, and 228 foot-pounds of torque at 4,800 RPM. Large ventilated disc brakes were placed at all four corners, and the transmission was a five-speed manual transaxle with limited-slip differential. Weighing 2,700 pounds, the RS had a top speed of 162 mph. During its production lifespan, 1,992 examples were produced.
This particular Carrera RS was ordered new by Georg Stoll of Rickenbach, Germany, and left the factory finished in Grand Prix White with a tri-tone grey interior. It was ordered in early 1991 and formalized the sale on December 12th. Mr. Stoll sent the car for routine servicing on July 18th of 2000 with only 4,896 kilometers. In 2009 it was unregistered and placed into storage. In 2013 the car had 10,838 kilometers and by 2015 it had 10,867 kilometers. In 2017 the car received a new set of Michelin Pilot Sport tires, and the speedometer was sent out to repair a cracked lens. A short time later, the car was acquired by its second and current owner and received a comprehensive inspection and service by Porsche Stuttgart prior to importation to the United States. The car arrived in the United States on February 19th of 2018 showing only 10,881 kilometers. Since that time it has added just six additional kilometers.By Daniel Vaughan | Jun 2020
