1952 Allard J2X Navigation
This Allard J2X was completed in June of 1952 and sent to New York sans engine. The original owner installed a Chrysler Hemi V-8 engine in the bay. The early history is not known, but by 1969 was acquired by Alan Beall of Southern California, later Hawaii, who maintained it for over three decades. He used it regularly and had it 'restored' twice, but 'not professionally.'
Steve Dennish of Limeworks Speed Shop restored the car in 2010. It was given a Cadillac 331 cubic-inch V8 that was specially built and lightly modified with forged pistons, custom-ground camshafts, and six Stromberg 97 carburetors. The 255 horsepower was sent to the rear wheels via a Lincoln-Zephyr transmission. The remainder of the running gear is original, along with the body panels. The exterior was refinished in bright red with a leather interior and Brooklands windscreen.
The car was later sold to a Southern California collector who maintained it well until selling it to the Muckel Collection several years ago. More recently it has been updated with tan leather upholstery and the correct original gauges.By Daniel Vaughan | Jun 2020
