1948 Crosley Model CC Station Wagon

Crosley may have been known as a manufacturer of radios, but in 1946 they introduced all-new automobiles. These slab-sided small cars feature modern styling unlike anything ever seen. They were initially powered by a sheet-steel four-cylinder 'Cobra' engine brazed together to save cost and weight. Prone to failure, they soon switched to more conventional cast iron blocks, as seen in this example.

This 1948 CC Four started as a wagon and, using patterns from an original, was painstakingly replicated into a period-correct ice cream truck as used by Mr. Happy Ice Cream of Erie, Pennsylvania. These were popular in the 1950s and 1960s and often seen on neighborhood streets. This prime example has various features, including an insulated ice box for storing treats, a mountable umbrella, and the authentic ice cream truck livery.
