1972 Porsche 911E Navigation
In 2007 this 1972 Porsche 911E Coupe was brought to the Monterey Sports & Classic Car Auction presented by RM Auctions, where it had an estimated value of $50,000 - $70,000. It was offered without reserve and sold for a high bid of $41,250 including buyer's premium. It is powered by a horizontally opposed six-cylinder engine that displaces 2341 cc and produces 165 horsepower. There is a five-speed manual gearbox and four-wheel disc brakes. It is finished in Albert Blue with tan interior and fitted with the original Bowman AM/FM radio, factory air conditioning, and factory compressor and condenser.
As the body shape of the 356 Series became dated over the years, Porsche management decided to introduce a replacement. Near the close of the 1950s Ferdinand Porsche began designing a body for a new car that would continue in the Porsche tradition. The resulting vehicle was introduced at the Frankfurt Motor Show in 1963 as the 901. Before Porsche went to production in 1964, the name was changed to 911 as Peugeot had copyrighted all combinations of three numbers with a zero in the middle.
The Porsche 911 was one of the more nimble and sporty cars to traverse the road. Its rear engine design and lightweight, small and aerodynamic body was a perfect combination.By Daniel Vaughan | Dec 2007
