Packard introduced its Fourth Series six-cylinder models in August of 1926. Updates included a new 'TUrbo-Head' with redesigned combustion chambers, redesigned intake manifolds, and new aluminum pistons, resulting in an increase of output to 81 hp. These were the first production automobile with a hypoid differential, which allowed for a lower ride height.
Packard's six-cylinder models proved very popular, outselling the Eights four to one and resulting in a four-month waiting list.
The Packard Six was offered on two wheelbase sizes, with the runabout (a rumble seat-equipped roadster) resting on the shorter, 126-inch wheelbase platform.
This Packard was delivered new to Boston, Massachusetts, and has been cared for by a single family for over six decades. It wears an older, well-preserved restoration in cream with brown fenders and accents over a brown interior. There are a tan top and side curtains with brown edge trim. The car rides on wide whitewall tires and body-colored disc wheels. There is a spare mounted at the rear and Trippe Speedlights at the front.
In 2019 and 2020 the car was given substantial mechanical freshening including the reconditioning of the gas tank and rebuilding of the fuel-sending unit and vacuum fuel feed canister. The carburetor was rebuilt, the wiring re-done, and cosmetic touchups were made as needed. The work was performed by Back in Time of Bethlehem, Pennsylvania.By Daniel Vaughan | Dec 2021
