1951 Mercury Series 1CM Custom Navigation
Ford's Mercury division introduced the all-new Eight for 1949 which became the perfect canvas for many artisans like Gene Winfield and George Barris to make their own custom creations. Many of these 'lead sleds' were chopped, lowered, and modified in various ways.
This Mercury Coupe was tastefully customized and finished with a blue exterior. All of the badging was removed, subtle pinstriping was applied to the nose and decklid, and dual spotlights and Cadillac wheel covers were added. The interior was trimmed in two-tone blue and fitted with a Pioneer stereo carefully concealed in the glove compartment.
