1954 Aston Martin DB2/4 Navigation
Both Aston Martin and Lagonda were rescued by tractor magnate David Brown in 1947, following the wake of World War II. The first post-war Aston Martin was the Two Litre Sports which found fourteen willing buyers. What followed was the first of the DB nameplate which would become one of the most enduring in all of sports car history. Named for company chairman David Brown, the DB2 was introduced in prototype form in 1949, and its sporty aluminum coachwork was complemented by its potent twin-overhead-cam inline-six. Three years later, Aston Martin introduced the DB2/4, and during its four-year lifespan, a total of 764 examples were built. Its styling featured a subtly raised roofline accommodating additional seating for two rear passengers, and its revolutionary 'hatch back' design offered unparalleled access to the luggage compartment.
This particular Aston Martin DB2/4 was completed in October 1953 and wore a Blue Haze exterior paint scheme. It was imported through S.H. Arnolt Inc. of Chicago, Illinois, and from that point through the early 1990s, little is known of the car's history. It was prepared for vintage racing in the early 1990s by then-owner Jim Simpson with the work performed initially by Robert Clerk while working for Peter Livanos at Aston Vintage Racing Services shop in Stamford, Connecticut. Martin Cheetham in the United Kingdom built the high-performance engine, and additional work was performed by Robert and Jon Clerk at their race shop, Performance Racing in Pompano Beach, Florida.
Fitted with all the required safety modifications required for vintage racing, this Aston Martin has a fuel cell, roll bar, and seat harness. To cope with the high-performance engine, the suspension and brakes have been modified accordingly.
When the was engine power band found to be quite narrow, Simpson had the engine rebuilt again, this time by Lance Evans of Steel Wings in New Jersey.
