At the height of IMSA's factory involvement, teams from Porsche, Jaguar, GM, Ford, and Toyota squared off in some of the best racing the series had ever seen. Nissan and Geoff Brabham won four straight IMSA Camel GT drive and manufacturer championships from 1988-1991.

First raced in 1985 (partial season) the Nissan GTP ZX-Turbo is an Electromotive modified Lola T10 chassis. It is powered by a Nissan VG30 turbo motor, designed to be competitive on the slower tracks used by the IMSA GT Series. Chassis #8801, nicknamed Elvis' was built for the 1988 IMSA season. Geoff Brabham was at the wheel. Together they produced an impressive record of eight poles, nine wins, and ten fastest laps. At the conclusion of the season Geoff Brabham had won the Driver's Championship (Nissan missed the Constructor's title by one point as a result of skipping the early season endurance races). This car returned to win the championship in 1989 with a record of nine poles, ten wins, and seven fastest laps.

After winning the IMSA Championship in 1988 and 1989, Nissan bought out Electromotive and named it 'Nissan Performance Technology, Inc.' They designed an all-new car, the NPT-90. With a combination of points earned by the two designs, Nissan and Brabham was able to capture the manufacturer and drivers' championships yet again.
