At the age of 27, Virgil Exner was already chief designer for Pontiac. Before turning 30, he was recruited to Raymond Loewy's industrial design company in New York City and assigned to do design for one of Lowey's clients, Studebaker. From Studebaker, Exner went to Chrysler, where he designed legendary concept cars and established the 'forward look' and cars with large but elegant tail fins.
Ill health shortened Exner's career. He retired in 1961, the year of this Imperial Crown two-door Convertible, one of only 429 such cars built. This one features a rare option - swivel seats. It has just been restored.
