1953 Chevrolet Corvette C1 Roadster

To enhance the appeal of their new sports car, Chevrolet marketing made a concerted effort to sell the new Corvette to 'opinion leaders' - people in positions of power and influence. This car, the 24th Corvette produced, was originally sold to the president of Standard Oil Company. It was subsequently resold to a close friend and engineer at McCullough Corporation. McCullough, a producer of aftermarket performance equipment, wanted access to a Corvette for the development of a supercharger package that could potentially be made available as an option on future Corvette models. Once the updates and testing were completed, GM regrettably had little interest in this compression V8 engine for the 1966 Corvette. No longer needed for development, the car fell into obscurity and disrepair. Some 30 years later, this historic car resurfaced and was restored by Dave Ferguson, a dedicated Corvette enthusiast.
