September 7, 2016 by MazdaWASHINGTON, DC (September 6, 2016) – On August 10, 2016, Mazda Motor Corporation filed a safety defect report with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) to address a concern with certain 2009-2010 Mazda6 vehicles. On the affected Mazda6 vehicles, due to insufficient protective coating on the air bag control unit power supply, moisture could enter the unit and cause corrosion, causing the unit to malfunction and turning on the air bag warning light. Continued driving in this condition could potentially cause the air bags to not deploy in a crash, increasing the risk of injury. Approximately 41,000 vehicles are affected in the U.S. There are no reports of accidents or injuries.
