1962 MG Midget MKI

Many consider the MG Midget a re-badged version of the Austin-Healey Sprite II, which recently had lost its original 'bugeye' appearance. Though this was true, the Midget did have qualities that differentiated itself from its Sprite sibling. For starters, it had a different grille and trim details. The Midget grille featured wide vertical bars and there were rectangular parking lights positioned beneath the built-in round headlamps. There was a conventional trunk, horizontal bodyside trim strip above the front wheel opening, and squared-off wheel arches.

Both the Sprite and the Midget were powered by a 948cc engine that offered 46 horsepower. Both had a close-ratio four-speed manual gearbox. The Sprite had hydraulic disc brakes in the front while the Midget and drums at all four corners.

The 1962 Sprite sold for $1870 while the 1962 Midget sold for slightly more, at $1940.
