Alfa Romeo manufactured the Spider from 1966 to 1993 and it would be the last rear-wheel-drive Alfa Romeo. During its nearly three decades of production, only minor aesthetic and mechanical changes were implemented. The first three series were assembled by Pininfarina in Grugliasco and the fourth series in San Giorgio Canavese. The Spider was given a major styling revamp in 1983 which coincided with the introduction of black rubber front and rear bumpers. The front bumper incorporated the grille and a small soft rubber spoiler was added to the boot lid.
RoadsterPower was provided by an inline four-cylinder engine with dual overhead camshafts, an aluminum block and head, a 119.7 cubic-inch displacement, Bosch electronic fuel injection, solid valve lifters, five main bearings, and delivered 115 horsepower at 5,500 RPM. It used a five-speed manual transmission and stopping power was provided by four-wheel disc brakes. Steering was handled by recirculating ball. The front suspension was comprised of long and short control arms with coil springs and an anti-roll bar. In the back was a rigid axle with coil springs. In the United States, the Spider Veloce roadster had a base price of approximately $15,500.
