1930 Alfa Romeo 6C 1500 Navigation
The Alfa Romeo 6C model name was in reference to the car's straight-six cylinder engine and was applied to its road, race, and sports cars produced between 1927 and 1954. Introduced in April 1925 at the Salone dell' Automobile di Milano, the new 6C 1500 was based on the P2 racing car and was powered by a Vittorio Jano designed single overhead camshaft 1,487cc engine offering 44 horsepower and backed by a four-speed gearbox that was directly bolted on the engine. The 1500 Sport followed in 1928 and was Alfa Romeo's first road car with double overhead camshafts.Introduced in 1925, series production began in 1927 and the early examples wore bodies by James Young and Superleggera coachwork by Touring. The DOHC Sport version boosted horsepower by 10 bhp to 54 bhp. With the addition of a supercharger, the 6C 1500 secured the first of eleven victories in the Mille Miglia. Approximately 1,000 examples of the 6C 1500 were built, succeeded in 1929 by the larger-engined 6C 1750.
