1955 Ford Mainline Navigation
The Ford model lineup was redesigned for 1955, receiving changes to the interior along with longer, wider, and lower bodies. The entry-level model was the Mainline series which accounted for over 127,300 sales. Pricing began at $1,700 for the 2-door sedan and was the most popular body style in the lineup, with nearly 76,700 sales. The 4-door sedan found 41,794 willing buyers while the 2-door business coupe being the rarest, at 8,809 sales. Power was supplied from an overhead-valve six-cylinder engine displacing 223 cubic-inches and offering 120 horsepower. An optional overhead-valve V8 with a 272 CID displacement brought horsepower up to 160 bhp. With the four-barrel 'Power Pack', horsepower rose to 182 bhp. The Mainline rested on a 115.5-inch wheelbase and had a length of 198.5 inches. A three-speed manual gearbox was standard with overdrive and Ford-O-Matic automatic available for an additional cost. Inside, the Mainline had a single sun visor and an armrest on the driver's door. Instead of a chrome horn ring, the Mainline had a horn button.
