1961 Alfa Romeo Giulietta Ti Navigation
Alfa Romeo chose the Turin Motor Show in 1954 to introduce its new Giulietta model. Produced at the Portello factory in Milan, the Giulietta was powered by an all-alloy 1290cc twin overhead cam engine that employed hemispherical combustion chambers and domed pistons and was backed by an alloy-cased four-speed gearbox. Braking was handled by Alfin drums, and there was an aluminum differential housing to the rear axle and coil springs. Both the styling and performance were exceptional for a production car in 1954 and many campaigned in major motorsport events of its day. Its large oil capacity allowed sustained high revs and cast piston liners helped ensure a long life.

Auction entries : 1The Berlina (saloon) was introduced in 1955 and endowed with similar mechanical specifications as the preceding coupe. A new 101 series version of the Giulietta was introduced in 1961 bringing many upgrades. The coupe, spider and Berlina Giulietta remained in production through 1965.The Berlina Ti model (for 'Turismo Internazionale'), introduced in 1957, was slightly more powerful and luxurious than the 'Normale' version. Distinguishable features included unique dial lights and rear lamps, and minor changes to the hood. The interior dashboard included a tachometer and oil and water temperature gauges. Both the Normale and T.I. versions were updated in 1961 with the engines receiving a new exhaust system which helped increase power output. The 61 horsepower produced by the T.I. increased to 73 bhp giving it a top speed of nearly 160 km/h. The square mesh side grilles were now pieced together with the center shield, and larger tail lights were in the back. The prior bench seat was replaced by individual seats with storage nets on the seatbacks.
