1959 Singer Gazelle

The Singer Gazelle was introduced in 1956 and based strongly on the Hillman Minx. This was due to Singer becoming part of the Rootes group. It was offered in a variety of body styles including saloons, convertibles, and estate bodies. They were elegantly appointed and well-equipped. The cars were powered by a 1497cc overhead cam four-cylinder engine that could carry the cars to nearly 80 mph. In 1957 the Series II Gazelle was introduced bringing with it a new overdrive option on the engine. A larger fuel tank was added to alleviate complaints about distances between fill-ups.

Production of the Gazelle continued until 1967. In total, there were over 100,000 examples produced.
