Built by Quinn Epperly in California in 1958 it took four months to build the chassis at a cost of $13,000 plus $9,000 to Meyer-Drake Engineering for the Offenhasuer 225ci engine (engine # 188). First driver was George Amick in 1958, who lost by 17 seconds and came in 2nd the first year the car was built. Amick was named Rookie of the Year at the Indy 500 race that year. He was killed the next year, 1959, at Daytona. His speed was 133.517 mph --- elapsed time 3:44:41.45. In 1958, #99 finished in 2nd place after starting in 25th place. The qualifying speed was 142.710 mph and race speed at 133.517 mph.

Paul Goldsmith drove the car in 1959, placing 5th, and 1960, placing 3rd. In 1961 Jim Hurtubise drove the Demier Special but blew a piston on lap 102, so finished 22nd. #99 did not run at Indy in 1962, as Jim Hurtubise hit the wall and smashed up the car in a late attempt to make the line-up.

In 1966, a General Electric turbine was added and the #99 was one of the first turbine powered cars to run at Indy. It was entered by Norman C. Demier as the #99Jack Adams Aircraft Special to qualify for the 500. The car was extremely fast but declared unsafe because of brakes. It was driven by Al Miller and Bill Cheesebourg.

The car was restored by the original car builder, Quin Epperly, at age 85 and Phil Reilly & Company in California, USA. It is campaigned by Mark, Linda and Mariah Mountanos.
