1959 Epperly Demler Special Navigation

Built in early 1959 by Quinn Epperly, the Bowes Seal Fast Special qualified for Daytona at 176.880 mph for pole position driven by George Amick who tragically lost his life in a last lap crash. Repaired in time for the 1959 Indy 500 the car finished 6th driven by Johnny Boyd. In 1961 the car became the Risilone Special but failed to qualify. In 1962 the engine was converted to left laydown configuration and as the American Rubber & Plastics it finished 28th. For the 1963 season, Quinn Epperly modified the front suspension but the car failed to qualify for Indy in either 1963 or 1964. That year the car was sold to collector Bob Bryne from Detroit, MI who kept the car at his home until his passing in 2006. A fresh restoration had just been completed before being brought to the 2008 Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance.
