1975 Ford Mustang II

The Ford Mustang II was built for five years and during that time few exterior changes were made. Bodystyles on the 1975 Mustang included a coupe, FastBack coupe, a Ghia-bodied Coupe, and a Mach 1 Fastback Coupe. The base engine was a 140 cubic-inch overhead valve four-cylinder engine which offered 83 (SAE Net) horsepower. The 171 cubic-inch V6 offered 97 (SAE Net) horsepower while the optional 302 CID V8 provided 122 (SAE Net) horsepower. The V8 was a new option, as was a 'moon roof.'

The Ghia-bodied coupes had a new roofline with thicker rear quarters which made slightly smaller opera windows. Early Ghia bodies could be easily identified by the stand-up hood ornament, while later examples did not have this feature. Also, the early cars had hubcaps which were different than the later examples. The base price was just under $4,000 and 52,320 examples were built.

The Mustang Mach I Fastback Coupe was priced at $4,190 and 21,062 examples were produced. Standard equipment included the 2.8-liter V6 engine, steel-belted BR70-13 wide oval tires, black lower bodyside paint, unique rear deck lid striping, steel wheels with trim rings, and remote-control outside rearview mirrors.

The standard equipment on Mustangs included front disc brakes, low-back front bucket seat, vinyl upholstery and trim, woodgrain dash appliques, armrests, 2.3-liter four, and a four-speed manual transmission with floor shift controls. The steering wheel design was new this year, featuring two-spokes that were bent downward at each end.

Total sales compared to 1974 were significantly down, from 353,993 units in 1974 to 188,575 for 1975. Sales for 1976 were similar to the 1975 model year.
