2001 CHEVY EXPRESS: FULL-SIZE VERSATILITY AND VALUE

Whether hauling a heavy load to the job site or carrying a large family around town, you can depend on Chevrolet Express to get the job done. The 2001 model has several significant changes including the addition of an available, powerful Vortec 8100 V8 engine, several other powertrain enhancements, a new upscale LT model (interim availability) and a new family of radios.

SÚPERIOR WORK EFFICIENCY

In addition to the new upscale LT Passenger Van, Chevrolet Express is available as a Cargo Van, Passenger Van and as a Conversion Van. Models include the G1500 (1/2- ton), G2500 and G2500 (3/4-ton) Extended Wheelbase, G3500 and G3500 (1-ton) Extended Wheelbase configurations for seating for up to 15 passengers.

POWER TEAM ENHANCEMENTS

The big news for the 2001 Express is the big engine. Available on 3500 series, the powerful Vortec 8100 V8 replaces the Vortec 7400 for even more hard-working horsepower. With 340 peak horsepower and 455 lb-ft of torque, the 8100 has the most available horsepower and torque in the segment (excluding other GM vehicles). Along with the 8100 V8, there's a host of important engine enhancements for 2001 to make the Chevrolet Express even more dependable and long lasting. The Vortec 5000 and 5700 V8 engines have been converted to metric in order to commonize the starter, transmission and engine mount fasteners for improved quality and durability. A Delco Powertrain Control Module (PCM) replaces the Vehicle Control Module (VCM) on the Vortec 4300 V6, 5000 V8 and 5700 V8 engines. An Enhanced Knock Detection and Spark Correction System have been added to improve engine performance and efficiency. Transmission improvements to the torque converter of the 4L80-E 4-speed automatic will help provide even more dependable operation.

NEW LT MODEL

Available mid-year, the Express LT will combine numerous high-end features to give buyers a luxury full-size van. Exterior highlights include specific cladding and fascia with integral fog lamps, high- polished cast aluminum wheels and a choice of four colors. Inside, the Express LT is loaded with conveniences such as uplevel cloth or optional leather seating for seven passengers, Bose premium sound system with an in-dash 6-disc CD changer, OnStar safety and security package and 2 flip-down monitors with a videocassette player and a game package.

FÚNCTIONAL INSIDE

In addition to two new exterior colors, Light Pewter Metallic and Medium Pearl Green, on the inside, there's an all-new interior color, Very Dark Pewter. The 2001 Express offers a new family of radios with Radio Data Systems Technology (RDS) feature that can provide immediate traffic and weather updates, and will allow the driver to seek radio stations by music type. Express Vans sold as commercial trucks to eligible customers are available with the Commercial Customer Choice Program. This program allows eligible commercial customers to choose one of three different options for upfitting their Express Van: Adrian® Úpfit Packages; DeWALT tools option, an exclusive to Chevrolet; or cash reimbursement for special equipment.

SAFETY MATTERS

The Chevrolet Express reputation as a safe and reliable people-mover continues in 2001 with important safety features including child security rear door locks, 4-wheel antilock brakes (ABS), Daytime Running Lights and a reinforced safety cage construction. In addition, both front passenger air bags receive a revised Sensing and Diagnostic Module (SDM) for reliable and controlled deployment in the event of a collision. While G3500 Express models with the Recreational Úpfitter package now come with Hybrid Passenger Side Airbag (PSIR) Inflators to modulate the effects of deployment on impact.
