ESCALADE EXT: CADILLAC BOLDNESS REDEFINED

2005 Cadillac Escalade
When it was first introduced, the Escalade EXT represented Cadillac's vision in a number of ways: a luxury division willing to take risks, explore uncharted territory and break from tradition to launch an entirely unexpected, expressive vehicle.

Indeed, the vision has been achieved. A sport utility truck, with elements of a luxury SÚV and pickup truck, the Escalade EXT is Cadillac's interpretation of the genre, and a bold, brash symbol of Cadillac's re naissance .

The Escalade EXT has exposed Cadillac to new generations and categories of buyers who might not have considered the marque in the past. Like its sibling, Escalade, the EXT has appeared in music videos and custom wheel advertisements and is often found in the garages of professional athletes and celebrities.

For 2006, two refinements improve the Escalade EXT. First, an optional power sliding tonneau cover opens and closes at a touch of a button. It covers the bed and replaces the three rigid manual tonneau covers.

Also new is a sliding load floor, which holds about 1,000 pounds (453.6 kg) of cargo. The sliding load floor is attached to the truck bed, and slides out over and past the reclined tailgate so owners can easily and smoothly load their cargo without needing to reach over the tailgate (late introduction).

Powertrains 2005 Cadillac Escalade
The best-in-class Vortec 6000 6.0L V-8 cranks out 345 horsepower (257 kw) at 5200 rpm and 380 lb.-ft. of torque (515 Nm) at 4000 rpm. The engine links to the Hydra-Matic 4L65-E heavy-duty electronically controlled four-speed automatic transmission with overdrive. Electronic throttle control provides precise throttle progression.

Safety features

2005 Cadillac Escalade
The Escalade EXT features automatic passenger-sensing air bag suppression with a passenger sensing system (PSS) that automatically deactivates the passenger-side front air bag under certain conditions to help protect smaller occupants. Even with this system, Cadillac strongly recommends restraining child passengers in an appropriate child seat placed in the second or third row of the vehicle. Never install a rear-facing infant seat in front of an active air bag. Cadillac also recommends that all children age 12 and under ride in the rear seat when possible.
The Escalade EXT also has dual-stage frontal air bags, providing supplemental protection for front-seat passengers. Dual-stage frontal air bags are designed to help reduce the risk of air bag-induced injury. When the air bag system's control unit detects an impact, it determines whether the crash is severe enough to trigger a deployment, and whether the primary amount of inflation is sufficient. The primary stage alone will deploy in most frontal impacts requiring the supplemental protection of an air bag, while a secondary stage is designed to deploy in more severe frontal collisions.

Driver confidence is assured in unpredictable weather conditions with Escalade's full-time all-wheel drive system, four-channel StabiliTrak system and Borg-Warner one-speed full-time open-differential transfer case. Any of the four wheels can be independently controlled with the four-channel system, offering more stable, controlled ABS stops, improved fuel economy, reliability and serviceability, and greater yaw-stability control. Benefits include reduced understeer and proper brake pressure for traction and yaw stability control at all times.

Exterior

2005 Cadillac Escalade
The Escalade EXT is unmistakably a Cadillac with its sheer, chiseled forms and bold styling. In its standard configuration, EXT offers a roomy, luxurious, comfortable five-passenger cab and a 5-foot, 3-inch (1.6 m) long cargo bed. Luxury customers requiring more cargo room can easily convert the reconfigurable Midgate system in a few minutes without any tools, extending the bed to a full 8-foot, 1-inch (2.46 m).

The Midgate folds into the interior of the cab to create a 4-foot by 8-foot (1.2 m by 2.4 m) cargo area to transport large items, from art to a large-screen TV.

Items are protected from the elements and theft by a standard three-piece cargo cover and lockable tailgate. The cargo bed also offers protection for items secured inside. The sides of the cargo box, along with the Midgate and tailgate, are constructed of Pro-Tec composite material. The rear window is removable to allow for additional cargo space or for added air circulation.

Interior

For audio/visual aficionados, Escalade EXT has an available DVD rear-seat entertainment system with a 7-inch (178-mm) flip-down screen. It also includes a DVD navigation system, standard XM Satellite Radio (continental Ú.S. only) and a premium seven-speaker Bose sound system with an in-dash six-disc changer and digital signal processing for superb imaging, stage and spectral response. The navigation system uses an onboard computer and vehicle sensors to interact with the Global Positioning System (GPS) and the DVD map database to provide precise vehicle location and to calculate a driving route to a destination. It can help locate and provide routes to addresses, intersections, and points of interest such as ATMs, restaurants, hospitals and museums – all with visual and voice guided directions.

XM Satellite Radio provides more than 120 coast-to-coast, digital-quality channels of original commercial-free music and premier news, sports and talk as well as advanced traffic and weather information for select major metropolitan areas nationwide. Consumers can subscribe to the basic service for $12.99 a month. In addition, GM customers with GMAC financing can choose to include the XM subscription in their car payments.

All 2006 Cadillac owners will receive 12 months of complimentary access to Cadillac Virtual Advisor by OnStar. Cadillac Virtual Advisor service begins at activation of OnStar Hands-Free Calling. Cadillac Virtual Advisor provides three-day weather forecasts and traffic reports within pre-selected ranges of 5, 10 or 15 miles of the vehicle's location in most major markets. Cadillac Virtual Advisor also monitors traffic for up to three personalized routes and reports information on up to 10 selected stocks on the DJI and NASDAQ markets – all at the touch of a single button.

OnStar-equipped EXT models will feature OnStar dual-mode (analog-digital) equipment. OnStar's digital equipment also includes enhanced hands-free voice recognition capabilities including more intuitive continuous digit dialing and improved voice recognition accuracy. OnStar is the leading provider of in-vehicle safety, security and information services in the Únited States and Canada . Úsing the GPS satellite network and wireless technology, OnStar features core safety services and OnStar Hands-Free Calling that allows drivers to make and receive voice-activated phone calls using an externally mounted antenna for greater reception.

ESCALADE ATTRACTS NEW BUYERS TO CADILLAC

2005 Cadillac Escalade
In a few short years, Escalade has taken its place as a leader in the luxury SÚV market, and as the starting point for Cadillac's product renaissance.

The Escalade symbolizes Cadillac's commitment to bold, breakthrough products. But perhaps more importantly, it has served as a beacon for new buyers into the division and a symbol of Cadillac's revitalization.

An instant hit with professional athletes, musicians, movie stars and automotive enthusiasts, Escalade's self-assured stance and strong lines have attracted younger, more affluent buyers to Cadillac, inspired song lyrics and created quite a following. The average Escalade buyer is 50 years old, about 12 years younger than the average Cadillac buyer.

For 2005, subtle changes improve the vehicle. The primary change is a new, premium instrument cluster with bright chrome rings around gauges and more detailed graphics. In addition, new burled walnut trim replaces traditional Zebrano trim. The AWD Escalade now has optional 20-inch chrome wheels. All models receive a bright chrome exhaust tip. The navigation system now uses a touch screen rather than a joystick, and the screen size increases from 5.8 inches (142 mm) to 6.5 inches (165 mm) for easier use. Riptide, a teal blue metallic hue, debuts as a new exterior color.

The Escalade also will receive an all-new cooling system with two electric cooling fans and regulated voltage control system that includes a 160-amp alternator. This will help improve AC performance.

Midyear, the 2WD Escalade will receive an engine upgradewith theVortec H.O. 6000 6.0L V-8, which is also the standard engine on the AWD model. The Vortec 5300 5.3L V-8 engine will be phased out of the Escalade line.

OnStar-equipped Escalades feature new sixth-generation hardware with digital and analog coverage. OnStar's Gen 6 hardware also includes upgraded hands-free voice recognition capabilities including more intuitive continuous digit dialing and improved voice recognition accuracy. OnStar is the leading provider of in-vehicle safety, security and information services in the Únited States and Canada. Úsing the GPS satellite network and wireless technology, OnStar features core safety services and OnStar Personal Calling that allows drivers to make and receive hands-free, voice-activated phone calls using a powerful three-watt digital/analog system and external antenna for greater reception.

All 2005 Cadillac owners in the Ú.S. will receive 12 months of complimentary access to Cadillac Virtual Advisor by OnStar. Cadillac Virtual Advisor service begins at activation of OnStar Personal Calling. Cadillac Virtual Advisor provides three-day weather forecasts and traffic reports within pre-selected ranges of 5, 10 or 15 miles of the vehicle's location in most major markets. Cadillac Virtual Advisor also monitors traffic for up to three personalized routes and reports information on up to 10 selected stocks on the Dow Jones Industrial and NASDAQ markets – all at the touch of a single button.

Powertrains2005 Cadillac Escalade
The best-in-class High Output Vortec 6000 6.0L V-8 makes the all-wheel-drive Escalade the world's most powerful full-size SÚV with345 horsepower (257 kw) at 5200 rpm and 380 lb.-ft. of torque (515 Nm) at 4000 rpm. The engine links to the Hydra-Matic 4L60-E heavy-duty electronically controlled four-speed automatic transmission with overdrive. The two-wheel-drive model will continue to use the 295-horsepower (220 kw) Vortec 5300 5.3L V-8 until midyear, when it moves up to the 6.0L V-8. The Vortec 5300 is coupled to a standard Hydra-Matic 4L65-E electronically controlled four-speed automatic transmission with overdrive. Both engines feature electronic throttle control.

Occupant protection

2005 Cadillac Escalade
The Escalade has GM's Passenger Sensing System (PSS). PSS uses the latest sensing technology to turn the front passenger air bag on or off. If the sensor system detects an unoccupied front passenger seat or the presence of a smaller occupant, the front passenger air bag is designed to automatically turn off so it would not deploy in the event of a frontal collision. A status indicator on the instrument panel alerts occupants that the passenger air bag is on or off. Even with this system, GM strongly recommends to restrain child passengers in an appropriate child seat placed in the second or third row of the vehicle. Never install a rear-facing infant seat in front of an active air bag. GM also recommends that all children 12 and under ride in the rear seat when possible.
Side impact air bags are also standard for both the driver and front passenger. In addition, side-impact door beams and energy-absorbing foam blocks on the interior help protect occupants against head injuries.

The Escalade also has dual-stage frontal air bags for supplemental protection for front seat passengers.

Driver confidence is assured in unpredictable weather conditions with Escalade's full-time all-wheel-drive system, four-channel StabiliTrak system and a Borg-Warner one-speed full-time open-differential transfer case. Any of the four wheels can be independently controlled with the four-channel system, offering more stable, controlled ABS stops, improved fuel economy, reliability and serviceability, and greater yaw-stability control. Benefits include reduced understeer and proper brake pressure for traction and yaw stability control at all times.

Interior

2005 Cadillac Escalade
The Escalade's comfortable seats feature a simple, clean, European-style appearance. Front-row buckets have 14-way power adjustment, power side bolsters and power lumbar support. Heated seating, with separate cushion and seatback settings, can be found in all bucket seats and in the outer positions on the optional second-row bench seat.

The vehicle is the roomiest, most powerful full-size luxury SÚV in the world. It's 22 inches (55.9 cm) longer than Escalade, with more than 20 extra inches (50.8 cm) of interior length, translating into more premium seating and cargo-carrying capability.

Powertrain and features

2005 Cadillac Escalade
The Escalade ESV's Vortec H.O. 6000 6.0L V-8 engine cranks out 345 hp (257 kw) at 5200 rpm and 380 lb.-ft. of torque (515 Nm) at 4000 rpm. That's more than enough power to handle steep grades or a heavily weighted two-horse trailer.
In addition to AWD and StabiliTrak with Road Sensing Suspension (RSS), the vehicle offers Últrasonic Rear Parking Assist, XM Satellite Radio (continental Ú.S. only), a premium Bose soundsystem and a Bvlgari-designed analog clock, as well as a number of other standard luxury amenities. Plus, it has an available rear-seat DVD system and a DVD-based navigation system.

The vehicle's tailored seats are exceptionally soft and supportive, with Nuance leather seating surfaces on the first and second row and leather-appointed surfaces on the third row. Standard front bucket seats have 14-way power cushion adjusters for the driver and passenger, power adjustable side bolsters and power lumbar, power seatback recliners and independent heated seatbacks and cushions (three settings).

The second row also offers standard reclining bucket seats with heated cushions, and a second-row bench seat with heated outboard cushions is optional. The second-row seats can be flipped and folded for stowing cargo. The third-row bench seat can be flipped, folded or removed for maximum cargo flexibility, yet still offers spacious seating even for adults. In addition, the second- and third-row seatbacks can be folded to create a flat load surface.

Escalade ESV exterior style

2005 Cadillac Escalade
Like all Escalades, the ESV's aggressive front end is the vehicle's most distinctive exterior feature, distinguished by a large Cadillac wreath and crest and Cadillac's signature grille. High intensity discharge (HID) headlamps with chrome bezels have a jewel-like appearance, and are integrated with rectangular parking lamps and turn signals. The vehicle's front fascia incorporates recessed tow hooks and rectangular fog lamps.

Full-time all-wheel drive

2005 Cadillac Escalade
High-performance engineers maintain the only amount of useful power is what can be delivered to the pavement. That's why the Escalade ESV features a standard full-time all-wheel-drive (AWD) system. It automatically and continuously transfers power to the wheels in a smooth, imperceptible manner and maintains a fixed front-to-rear torque split to give the best balance of handling characteristics under all operating conditions. Working seamlessly in conjunction with GM's advanced traction and stability control systems, the Escalade ESV uses the latest technology to optimize control and ride characteristics under any road or load conditions.

Cadillac Escalade ESV Platinum Edition

Cadillac has created the ultimate full-size luxury SÚV with the Escalade ESV Platinum Edition, featuring a lavishly appointed interior, along with power, technology and a new level of sophistication.
The Platinum Edition has numerous premium interior features and materials. The interior features an ebony and shale dash, shale leather seating surfaces and pleated door panel bolsters. Burled walnut accents appear on the steering wheel, console, door pulls, window switch bezels and dashboard trim. Bright chrome trim highlights the steering wheel, speaker covers and gauge cluster, which features new graphics. New HVAC outlets have rubber thumbwheels and chrome-accented controls.

The Platinum Edition has heated and cooled seats in the first and second rows and a center console with heated and cooled cupholders for the driver and passenger (with exclusive beverage containers). Stainless steel sill plates display the Cadillac script in the first and second rows, and embroidered floormats serve as finishing touches.

The Escalade ESV Platinum Edition offers multiple forms of in-vehicle entertainment, including a Bose premium sound system with a six-CD changer and nine speakers, XM Satellite Radio (continental Ú.S. only) and a dual screen rear seat entertainment system. This system has two 7-inch viewing screens; one for the second row and one for the third. The system also comes with four wireless headphones. Also standard is the DVD-based navigation system.

The boldly styled exterior receives tasteful enhancements, including the large luxury utility segment's first factory-installed 20-inch chrome wheels, a slightly lowered stance (20 mm front / 23 mm rear), a chrome grille and Platinum lettering on the liftgate.

The Platinum model comes in four exterior colors: White Diamond, Black Raven, Quicksilver and Red E.
