1959 OSCA Formula Junior

Officine Specializzate Costruzioni Automobili (OSCA) was established in 1947. The company was founded by Ernesto, Ettore, and Bindo Maserati, brothers who left Maserati when their contract with Adolfo Orsi expired. In 1937 the Maserati brothers had sold their shares of the company to the Orsi family.

When OSCA was formed, its primary purpose was to create a competitive vehicle able to win in the 1100cc class. Their first OSCA automobile was the MT4, representing Maserati Tipo 4. The 4 signified the number of cylinders of the engine.

An OSCA Formula Junior racing car was driven by Colin Davis, along with a Stanguellini and a Taraschi, to win the International Championship in 1959. The Formula Junior Osca's were powered by a Fiat engine that displaced 1089cc. The gearbox was a four-speed Fiat system which sent the power to the rear wheels. The tubular frame was built using lightweight construction methods and materials. Alloy panels were used to create the body. The Osca FJ cars were some of the most attractive cars that circled the tracks.
