1901 Haynes-Apperson Model A Navigation

Motor Carriage
In 1897, the company produced three vehicles, followed by 5 the following year. By the close of the century, they were producing 30 per year. The figures continued to rise, as in 1900 they produced 192 cars. As the vehicles were produced over a century ago, they are extremely rare. This Model A Motor Carriage is powered by a two-cylinder, opposed, 8-horsepower engine, and the vehicle is controlled by tiller steering operation from the front seat. There are spindle-back seats which are common for those in carriages from that era. When new, the car sold for $1,500.
The Haynes-Apperson cars were successful in endurance runs. In 1899, a Haynes-Apperson was driven from Kokomo to New York City and back. Elwood Haynes claimed that it was the first 1,000-mile automobile trip made in America (though the actual overall distance was less than 1,000 miles). The run was re-made in 1901 in 73 hours which Haynes claimed was a speed record.
