The 1966 Fiat 1500 Spider Convertible was powered by an overhead-valve four-cylinder engine that offered 83 SAE horsepower. It had a five-speed manual gearbox and front disc brakes. The 1500 sold for $2580. For 1966, the engine was given a slight increase in power, rising by 3 horsepower. The Fiat 1500 was introduced in 1964 and served as a replacement for the 1200. It came with a 1481cc engine that was rated at 80 horsepower. Top speed was in the neighborhood of 100 mph. The design was courtesy of Pininfarina and featured a low hood with a wide egg crate-pattern grille with a Fiat insignia found in the center. There were round parking lights with front bumper dividers that wrapped around the front. The car rode on Pirelli Cinturato tires and inside there was a padded dashboard, heater/defroster, a clock, and a racing-inspired steering wheel. Originally, the car was given a four-speed gearbox, but this was changed in late 1964 to a five-speed unit.
